Moi University Lecturers Initiates a Strike, Demands The Disbandment of University’s Council

Moi University lecturers have initiated a strike, demanding the disbandment of the university’s council due to alleged mismanagement.

Led by Richard Okero, Chairman of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Moi University chapter, and national trustee Jane Michael, the lecturers highlighted issues including the non-remittance of their bank loans and pensions over the past four years, despite ongoing deductions.

The lecturers are urging the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to swiftly investigate the alleged disappearance of over Ksh. 1 billion from the university’s new funding model.

They argue that this substantial sum may have been misappropriated and is part of the broader financial mismanagement issues at the institution.

The lecturers have vowed to continue their strike and will not resume work until their demands, including the disbandment of the university’s council and resolution of financial issues, are addressed.
