KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori to Resign- Kuppet Assistant Treasurer Kisii

Jentrix Ogolla, the Assistant Treasurer of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch, has called for the immediate resignation of the union’s Secretary General, Akello Misori.

Ogolla criticized Misori for failing to effectively advocate for teachers’ rights, expressing that teachers need a leader who can stand up for their interests with conviction and without compromise.

Ogolla made these remarks during an address at the KUPPET Nakuru branch AGM held in Naivasha, underscoring the growing frustration among teachers over union leadership.

Jentrix Ogolla, KUPPET’s Kisii branch Assistant Treasurer, has expressed disappointment in the union’s leadership, particularly Secretary General Akello Misori, for calling off the recent teachers’ strike prematurely.

She accused Misori of acting without consulting the National Governing Council (NGC) and of prioritizing personal interests over teachers’ welfare. Ogolla stated that the strike was gaining momentum, with even President Ruto, the Education Cabinet Secretary, and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) ready to address teachers’ demands.

She called for Misori’s resignation, asserting that the union needs a leader who cannot be “bought” and who truly advocates for teachers’ rights.

Jentrix Ogolla also raised concerns about the stagnation of teachers in the same job groups for years, describing it as a major issue affecting their morale and professional growth.

She emphasized the importance of employing Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers on permanent and pensionable terms, noting that job security is crucial for teachers to perform their duties effectively, especially given the current harsh economic conditions.

Additionally, Ogolla highlighted the need for the government to improve the medical scheme for teachers, arguing that educators cannot teach effectively if their healthcare needs are not adequately addressed.
