Bad Luck as Education CS Ezekiel Machogu Changes Tune, Reduces The Number of Teachers to Be Hired in January 2023

Teachers Service Commission, TSC is set to employ new teachers for Primary and Secondary School in January, 2023.

The move comes as President William Ruto promised to recruit more teachers in a bid of bridging a staffing gap in public schools.

Education Cabinet secretary Ezekiel has changed the tune on the number of teachers to be recruited next year. President William Ruto during election campaign Promised that 116,000 teachers will be recruited to bridge a staffing gap in public schools.

However, Education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu has changed the tune, affirming that Teachers Service Commission will only Recruit 30,000 teachers against the promised 116,000 due to economic situation.

“We know that this coming year, we had promised 116, 000 teachers but because of the nature of the economy, the way it is, we are going to do it progressively. So this coming January, we are going to recruit 30, 000 teachers and thereafter, we will be able to improve,” Mr Machogu told principals from Kisii and Nyamira counties.

CS Machogu spoke yesterday at Kisii School When he met School principals of the counties of Nyamira and Kisii, indicated that that the Promise on Recruitment of 116,000 teachers by President William Ruto has been pushed forward due to economic situation, indicating that the hiring will be done progressively.

The current economic situation in the country could not allow President William Ruto’s Promise in recruiting 116,000 teachers as CS Machogu affirmed.

Machogu indicated that other teachers will be recruited in the coming subsequent years to curb unemployment of teachers in the country.
