Following the shortage of Teachers in Public Primary School, Kenya Primary Heads Association KEPSHA has called the ministry of education to address the matter.
This comes as the Ministry of Education bans Morning and Evening studies, claiming that it overburden students.
Education Cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu said that no school should conduct morning and evening preps as classes should start at 8.00 am in the morning and end at 3.45 pm in the evening.
Machogu expressed the concern of students waking up as early as 4.00 am in the morning and sleeping late. Any school ferrying students at home as late has 10.00pm has been warned by CS Machogu.
Kenya Primary Heads Association, KEPSHA said that the current teachers-pupil ratio is 1:50 expressing the need of employing more teachers to address the shortage of Teachers in public primary schools.
KEPSHA thanked the Ministry of Education for providing Teaching materials but stressed the concern of shortage of teachers, emphasizing the need by Ministry of education to employ more teachers to adhere to the Released school calendar.
Teachers Service Commission, TSC employed 35, 550 teachers in both primary and Junior Secondary in 2023.
10,000 vacancies were on permanent and pensionable terms where 1000 preserved for primary level and 9000 for Junior Secondary.
25,550 were preserved for Intern in Primary and Junior Secondary where 4000 set for Primary Intern Teachers while 21,550 for intern Junior Secondary Teachers.
