Ministry of Education pledges fair national school placements for Grade Nine learners through an AI-powered digital allocation system.
The Ministry of Education has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equity and fairness in the upcoming placement of Grade Nine learners to senior schools.
Using an AI-powered digital allocation system, the ministry will ensure that every county is represented in Cluster One schools, Kenya’s elite institutions known for their high academic standards and advanced infrastructure.
“We are committed to fairness,” said Prof Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary for Basic Education. “AI will help us distribute opportunities evenly so that a learner from Mandera can join a school in Kisumu or Nairobi.”
The ministry’s approach also promotes national cohesion, allowing students to interact with peers from diverse backgrounds.
Kenya currently has more than 100 Cluster One schools, and each will receive learners from all 47 counties.
Experts believe this strategy will bridge regional education inequalities and foster inclusivity. The ministry has also confirmed that 2.4 million senior school spaces are available — double the number of learners expected to transition.
