A shocking incident has unfolded in Nyamira County, where a teacher is nursing injuries after being brutally assaulted by his own school principal for allegedly arriving late.
The victim, Vincent Onyancha, claims he was slapped, kicked, and humiliated in front of his students before being dragged into the principal’s office, where the assault continued.
“I was a little late to school, and the principal stormed into my class while I was teaching. Without warning, he slapped me, kicked me, and then dragged me to his office, where he continued to rain blows on me,” Onyancha recounted from his hospital bed in Ikonge.
The violent altercation has sparked outrage among teachers, parents, and education stakeholders. Officials from the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have strongly condemned the attack and are now demanding justice.
Speaking to journalists in Ikonge, KUPPET leaders warned that if swift action is not taken against the principal, teachers across the county would boycott work in protest.
“This is unacceptable! No teacher should be subjected to such barbaric treatment, especially in front of students. If the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) does not take immediate action, we will have no choice but to down our tools,” a KUPPET official declared.
Nyamira County’s TSC Director, Erick Magak, has confirmed that his office has received the complaint and launched an investigation into the matter. “We take such cases very seriously, and we will ensure that due process is followed,” Magak assured.
The incident has left many questioning the culture of discipline and leadership within schools.
If a principal can resort to violence against a fellow teacher, what message does that send to students? As the probe continues, all eyes are now on the TSC to see whether they will take decisive action against the rogue principal.
