While science and mathematics teachers have been prioritized in the 2025/2026 internship program, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has also emphasized opportunities for teachers of technical and creative arts subjects.
According to the guidelines, applicants specializing in Home Science, Computer Studies, Business, Agriculture, Music, Fine Art, Drawing and Design, Woodwork, Metalwork, Power Mechanics, and Building and Construction will be considered under technical categories.
Applicants in these fields must meet the minimum academic requirements, including a C+ mean grade at KCSE and at least a C+ in teaching subjects. Degree and diploma holders with relevant qualifications will also be considered. However, applicants whose training falls outside the secondary school curriculum, such as theology, sociology, or journalism, are not eligible.
The inclusion of technical and creative arts subjects underscores TSC’s recognition of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which places strong emphasis on practical skills. Teachers in these areas are expected to equip learners with vital skills for self-employment and innovation.
By opening internship slots to technical educators, the TSC is aligning teacher recruitment with Kenya’s broader economic goals of promoting technical and vocational training for sustainable development.
