TSC Reschedules 21,000 Promotion Interviews

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has postponed promotion interviews for 21,000 teachers after October 17, 2025, was declared a public holiday to honour Raila Odinga.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has postponed the promotion interviews for over 21,000 teachers that were initially scheduled for October 17, 2025. The change follows the government’s declaration of the date as a national public holiday to honour the late Raila Amolo Odinga.

TSC Acting CEO Everleen Mitei confirmed that the interviews will now take place between October 21 and 23, 2025. She said the decision was made in recognition of the national mourning period and to pay respect to Mr Odinga’s contributions to Kenya’s democracy and education sector.

Ms Mitei further noted that regional directors would issue revised schedules and logistical details to all affected candidates. She also thanked teachers for their patience and professionalism during the transition.

The upcoming promotion exercise, estimated to cost KSh 1 billion, is expected to benefit teachers across all cadres. This initiative underscores TSC’s plan to strengthen staffing levels in public schools amid rising teacher shortages nationwide.
