The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued fresh guidelines governing the recruitment of 24,000 teacher interns for junior schools in the 2025/2026 financial year. The new framework, contained in Circular No. 15/2025, seeks to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and fairness during the selection process.
Applicants will be required to submit applications online via the TSC portal. Once the lists are generated, County and Sub-County Directors will convene interview panels to vet candidates. All applicants must present original academic and professional documents, including KCSE, KCPE, transcripts, and proof of registration as teachers.
TSC emphasized that venues for the selection process must be accessible to applicants with disabilities, reserving at least 5% of slots for persons with disabilities. Teachers trained in Special Needs Education will be deployed to specialized schools.
To enhance fairness, TSC outlined clear scoring guides that consider academic qualifications, teaching subjects, and the length of time since graduation. Priority will go to teachers of science and mathematics, followed by those in technical subjects, languages, and humanities.
This recruitment exercise is expected to ease teacher shortages in junior schools, while also providing professional experience for young educators.
