In its latest promotion cycle, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 674 vacancies for Principals (Regular) under T-Scale 13. This is one of the largest recruitment opportunities for school heads, aimed at improving leadership in secondary schools nationwide.
Eligible candidates must have served as Deputy Principal II or Senior Master I (T-Scale 12) for at least three years. In addition, applicants must show evidence of satisfactory performance in appraisals and demonstrate the ability to mentor and guide fellow teachers.
This large-scale promotion drive is a response to Kenya’s growing secondary school population and the pressing need for effective leadership in institutions implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Principals will be expected to lead schools through curriculum transition, maintain discipline, and ensure accountability in resource management.
The application process is strictly online, with candidates expected to apply via www.teachersonline.go.ke before 25th August 2025. Manual applications will not be accepted. Successful applicants will undergo interviews and must produce valid Chapter Six compliance documents before appointment.
TSC has also underscored its commitment to inclusivity by reserving opportunities for teachers in Special Needs Education (SNE). In fact, an additional two SNE Principal positions have been advertised to ensure fair representation in schools catering to learners with disabilities.
Education stakeholders have welcomed this move, noting that well-qualified principals are key to raising academic standards and improving school management. With almost 700 vacancies available, this opportunity is expected to motivate thousands of deputy principals and senior masters seeking to climb the leadership ladder.
Ultimately, the 674 advertised principal positions will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Kenya’s education by strengthening leadership, accountability, and performance in schools.
