The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has dismissed viral social media posts alleging that Lugulu Girls’ High School’s 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results have been released.
On Wednesday, January 15, rumors flooded online platforms claiming that the prestigious national school had finally received its withheld results, boasting an impressive mean grade of 10.2265, with all students attaining university cut-off grades.
KNEC took to its official social media accounts to address the matter, unequivocally labeling the posts as “FAKE.” The council emphasized that no official release of Lugulu Girls’ results had occurred and urged the public to disregard misinformation.
This development has heightened speculation surrounding the status of the schoolโs results, which have remained a contentious issue since their release was withheld.
Lugulu Girls’ High School, a renowned institution in Bungoma County known for its consistent academic excellence, was among five schools whose KCSE results were withheld by KNEC on January 9, 2024. Other affected schools include St. Peterโs Abwao Secondary School in Migori County, Mama Malia Academy in Kitui County, Kipsingei Mixed Secondary School in Bomet County, and Katilu Boys High School in Turkana County.
The decision to withhold results has sparked widespread concern among students, parents, and educators. On January 10, Lugulu Girlsโ administration sought to reassure stakeholders by issuing a statement confirming that they had initiated an official appeal with KNEC to resolve the matter.
“Dear parent/guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received the examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time,” the school communicated.
Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has been vocal about the issue, dismissing rumors that Lugulu Girls’ KCSE results were canceled. On January 11, Barasa revealed that he had directly contacted Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, who assured him that the results were withheld for further verification, not cancellation.
Barasa promised to follow up on the verification process to ensure the matter is resolved swiftly. “I have spoken with CS Ogamba, and he assured me that the results are being verified. Once the process is complete, Lugulu Girls’ 2024 candidates will receive their results. Let us remain patient and avoid spreading unverified information,” Barasa stated.
The uncertainty surrounding the release of KCSE results has caused significant anxiety among students and parents, who now face delays in their academic plans. Withholding results often stems from suspicions of irregularities or technical concerns during the examination process. KNEC has reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the national examinations and ensuring that the final results released are credible.
The ongoing situation has highlighted the importance of relying on official communication channels for updates regarding national examinations. KNEC has urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation, which could exacerbate the emotional toll on affected students and their families.
While the status of Lugulu Girls’ KCSE results remains unresolved, stakeholders are hopeful that the verification process will conclude soon, allowing the schoolโs candidates to join their peers in celebrating their academic achievements. For now, patience and adherence to official updates remain paramount.
