Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has agreed to transfer 6000 teachers to different special needs schools in an agreement with Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET).

TSC agreed that it will transfer the teachers in three phases in a meeting with KUSNET held in Naivasha on April 8, 2024

According to KUSNET secretary general James Torome, 1800 teachers will be deployed in the first phase in May 2024, and another 2000 will be deployed in the second phase in December 2024.

By July 2025, all the 2200 Teachers will begin to receive their allowance on top of their regular salary. The teachers will be transferred from the regular school to work in special needs schools.

Additionally, those 347 Teachers who were initially enrolled in special needs institutions and later transferred to regular schools will be reinstated to their original workplace.

However, the transferred Teachers continued to get their allowance even after being transferred to regular schools. Mr Torome assured three that they will still get their allowance after being reinstated to their initial designation.

Mr. Torome further added that Teachers handing special needs learners should not be subjected to other responsibilities as they will concentrate on the special needs unit.

Torome asked Teachers to carry out their duties seriously with determination and dedication, urging Teachers who have special needs qualifications and still work in regular schools to apply for deployment.
