TSC Cancels Kitui Transfers, Allows Promoted Teachers to Stay in Nairobi

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has reversed transfer letters for Nairobi-based teachers posted to Kitui, citing the abolition of the delocalisation policy. The affected educators will continue working in Nairobi until new vacancies arise.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially revoked transfer letters that controversially reassigned several Nairobi-based teachers to Kitui County. The move comes after affected teachers appealed against what they termed as “punitive promotions” following the government’s abolishment of the delocalisation policy.

Many of the affected teachers cited health issues, family separation, and advanced age as major challenges if moved far from home. In response to their grievances, the TSC has now confirmed that their promotions remain valid and that they will continue serving within Nairobi and surrounding counties until suitable vacancies become available.

This decision reflects the commission’s renewed commitment to teacher welfare and localised service deployment. Since the scrapping of delocalisation, many educators have pushed for fairer posting practices that align with family and health considerations.

TSC’s latest action has been widely welcomed by the teaching fraternity, with unions lauding the commission for listening to teachers’ concerns. The decision is also expected to boost morale among educators who have served in urban areas for decades.
