Aspiring teacher interns specializing in science and mathematics stand a greater chance of securing positions in the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) 2025/2026 internship program. According to the guidelines, applicants qualified in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics will be ranked higher in the merit lists.
TSC has explained that the prioritization of these subjects is aimed at addressing the acute shortage of science and mathematics teachers in junior schools across the country. Technical subjects such as Computer Studies, Business, Agriculture, and Home Science will follow closely in ranking, while languages and humanities will be considered thereafter.
In the event of a tie, selection will be determined based on the length of time since graduation and the quality of academic credentials presented. Teachers who graduated earlier will receive higher scores than recent graduates.
This move signals the Commission’s commitment to strengthening STEM education in Kenya, in line with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) requirements. With 24,000 internship slots available, the prioritization of science and technical subjects is likely to boost performance in areas long considered critical to Kenya’s socio-economic development.
