The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a directive to all unemployed, TSC-registered teachers across Kenya to submit their personal and professional details to their respective sub-counties.
This exercise aims to gather comprehensive data on the number of qualified but currently unemployed teachers in the country, a move expected to significantly inform policy formulation and strategic decision-making in the education sector.
According to TSC, the data collection will help assess the scope of teacher unemployment and plan future recruitment drives, deployment, and staffing policies more effectively.
The exercise targets all categories of teachers — Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers, primary school teachers, and post-primary (secondary school) teachers.
To streamline the process, the Commission has developed and disseminated specific online data submission links for each county and sub-county. These links are managed by local TSC offices, ensuring that the information is accurately categorized based on geographical and professional demographics.
Each teacher is required to submit the following information:
- Full Name
- TSC Number
- National ID Number
- Date of Birth
- Age
- Year of Graduation
- Category of Qualification (ECD, Primary, or Post-Primary)
- Home County
- Home Sub-county
Teachers are urged to provide accurate and up-to-date information, as the data collected will be used solely for policy development purposes. It is not tied to any immediate recruitment, but TSC emphasizes its importance in future planning, especially amid increasing calls for the government to address teacher shortages and ensure equitable distribution of teaching staff across the country.

This initiative comes at a time when thousands of trained teachers remain jobless, despite a growing demand for quality education in both urban and rural areas.
Teacher unions have previously raised concerns about the slow pace of employment and the mismatch between training output and available job opportunities. The current data mapping by TSC is expected to help close this gap by providing a clear picture of available human resources in the teaching sector.
Unemployed teachers are encouraged to contact their sub-county TSC offices for the correct submission links and support during the process. Timely participation in this exercise will play a crucial role in shaping the future of teacher employment and education policy in Kenya.
