TSC Selection Criteria for Recruitment of Senior Secondary School Teachers on PnP Terms

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has outlined a systematic and transparent process to guide the recruitment of teachers at the Sub-County level. This process ensures that only qualified candidates are considered, promoting fairness and adherence to professional standards.

Role of the TSC Sub-County Director
The TSC Sub-County Director plays a crucial role in the recruitment process. Upon receiving the list of applicants from the TSC County Director, the Sub-County Director provides this list to the selection panel. The panel is instructed to interview only those applicants who meet the established criteria, ensuring a focused and efficient recruitment process.

Additionally, the Sub-County Director is responsible for identifying any inconsistencies in applications or processes, adhering strictly to the provided guidelines. They also act as a point of guidance for both the applicants and the selection panel, ensuring that the recruitment process aligns with TSC policies.

Selection Process
Applicants are required to appear in person before the selection panel for interviews. This personal appearance is essential for verifying their qualifications, skills, and suitability for the role.

Each applicant is evaluated based on a detailed selection score guide, as outlined in Appendices 1(a) and 1(b). The score guide provides objective criteria for ranking candidates, ensuring a merit-based approach to recruitment.

Inclusivity in Recruitment
The TSC emphasizes inclusivity by accommodating applicants with disabilities. Those with hearing and/or speech impairments are permitted to attend the interview with a sign language interpreter. This provision reflects the TSC’s commitment to equal opportunities and the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the education sector.

By following these clear and structured guidelines, the TSC aims to uphold professionalism and transparency in teacher recruitment. The process not only ensures that the most qualified candidates are selected but also reinforces the Commission’s dedication to inclusivity and equity in the education system.

This meticulous approach strengthens the foundation of Kenya’s teaching workforce and promotes high-quality education for all learners.
