2025 KILEA Registration: Guidelines for Non-Citizen Learners and Examination Fees

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially announced the registration details for the 2025 Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA). As part of the governmentโ€™s commitment to supporting education, the Ministry of Education (MoE) will cover the assessment fees for all Kenyan learners in both public and private schools.

However, non-citizen learners who wish to sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) or KILEA will be required to pay an examination fee.

Registration Fees for Non-Citizen Learners

Non-citizen learners intending to register for KPSEA or KILEA must pay an assessment fee of Ksh 750. This fee is to be processed through the eCitizen platform, a government portal designed to facilitate secure online transactions for public services. KNEC has advised all relevant candidates and school administrators to ensure that payments are made within the registration period to avoid complications.

Government Support for Kenyan Learners

The Ministry of Education has reaffirmed its dedication to providing free assessment services for all Kenyan citizens enrolled in both public and private schools. This move aims to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while ensuring that all eligible learners are assessed fairly under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework.

The exclusion of non-citizen learners from this subsidy means that any foreign student studying in Kenya must personally cover the examination cost. Schools hosting international students are urged to inform affected learners and their guardians early enough to allow for a smooth registration process.

Why Timely Registration Matters

The registration process for KPSEA and KILEA is a crucial step for learners transitioning through the education system. Timely registration ensures that students are included in the national assessment process, which plays a significant role in their academic progression.

School heads and parents are encouraged to begin the registration process as soon as possible to avoid last-minute challenges. Additionally, learners required to pay the assessment fee should ensure they have completed the payment through eCitizen before the registration deadline.

With the 2025 KILEA registration now open, non-citizen learners must take note of the required examination fee and ensure timely payment. The governmentโ€™s commitment to covering the assessment costs for Kenyan students reflects its continued efforts to promote inclusive education.

Schools and parents must work together to facilitate smooth registration and ensure that all learners, regardless of nationality, have the opportunity to sit for their assessments without complications.
