Shock as SDA Church Elder Conceals Knife in Bible, Stabs Fellow Elder at Altar Over Alleged Love Affair

A shocking act of violence disrupted a church service in Ramoya village, Samba Sub-location, Suba South constituency, Homa Bay County, as a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) elder was stabbed to death by a fellow church elder in front of the congregation. The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday, has left the community in shock and mourning.

The victim, Francis Opiyo, a respected elder of Ebenezer SDA Church, had just completed his segment of the service, presenting church reports before the main sermon. As he handed over to another elder, the congregation prepared to listen to the next session. However, an unexpected and horrifying turn of events unfolded before their eyes.

According to Suba South Sub County Police Commander Caxton Ndunda, the assailant, a fellow church elder, suddenly approached the altar, pulled out a knife concealed within a Bible, and stabbed Francis in the left side of his chest. The impact was so severe that Francis collapsed immediately, bleeding profusely.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attacker believed Francis was having an affair with his wife, who is also a member of the church. This alleged love triangle is suspected to have fueled the rage that led to the brutal murder. Despite the solemn setting of the church service, the suspect acted without hesitation, shocking worshippers who watched the tragedy unfold before them.

Upon stabbing Francis, the suspect fled the scene but later surrendered himself to the area Assistant Chief. Meanwhile, fellow congregants rushed Francis to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers quickly moved in to restore order and begin their investigations. The suspect was apprehended and is currently being held at Magunga Police Station, where he awaits further legal action.

Police Commander Caxton Ndunda confirmed the arrest and urged residents to resolve personal and social disputes through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence. He emphasized that murder is not a solution to conflicts and that there are appropriate channels to address grievances.

The tragic loss of Francis Opiyo has left the local community reeling with grief. His body was transferred to St. Camillus Hospital Mortuary in Sori Town, Migori County, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

As the church and community come to terms with the shocking events, many are calling for justice while also reflecting on the importance of conflict resolution. The murder of a church elder in such a sacred space serves as a painful reminder of the consequences of uncontrolled emotions and unresolved disputes.
