TSC Grading System for Recruitment of Junior Secondary School Teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employs a Grade Point Average (GPA) grading system to evaluate academic performance and categorize candidates’ qualifications during recruitment and promotions.

This system aligns GPA scores with performance classifications and corresponding percentage marks, providing a standardized evaluation framework. Below is a detailed breakdown of the TSC GPA grading system:

First Class (3.7 – 4.0 GPA):                  Marks Range: 81 – 100.                            This is the highest classification and reflects exceptional academic achievement. Candidates in this category demonstrate outstanding mastery of their coursework and are highly competitive.

Upper Second Class (3.0 – 3.6 GPA) Marks Range: 71 – 80.                              This classification indicates above-average performance. Candidates in this group are considered competent and well-prepared for professional roles.

Lower Second Class (2.3 – 2.9 GPA): Marks Range: 61 – 70.                              This category represents satisfactory academic performance, showing a good grasp of the subject matter.

Pass (1.7 – 2.2 GPA):                             Marks Range: 51 – 60.                                   A pass classification signifies minimal competency. Candidates in this range meet the basic requirements but may require additional professional development.

Fail (0 – 1.6 GPA):                                  Marks Range: 50 and below.                    This represents unsatisfactory performance, where candidates do not meet the minimum academic standards.

The TSC GPA grading system is critical in determining eligibility for teaching roles, promotions, and career progression. It ensures a transparent and equitable process by aligning GPA scores with measurable academic achievements.

Understanding this system helps candidates assess their qualifications and prepare accordingly for TSC opportunities.
