In a bid of addressing understaffing in diverse schools, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to recruit more teachers to bridge the gap in junior secondary.
In a joint meeting between Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Kenya Union of Post-primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), it was agreed that most of the schools experience understaffing, thus the need to recruit more teachers, especially in junior secondary school.
The move follows after a six-day engagement between Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers’ (KUPPET) representative at Sawela Lodge in Naivasha.
Addressing the press, KUPPET National chairman Milema Omboko said that there’s a need for the government to admit more teachers in a bid of addressing understaffing. Omboko said that Sh 4 billion would be required to employ 20,000 teachers who will address the crisis of shortage of teachers in Junior Secondary School.
On the other end, KUPPET secretary general, Akelo Misori, said that of the 20,000 newly recruited teachers in Junior Secondary, 2000 will serve in ASAL areas.
Akelo Misori added that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) agreed that coming January 2025, all the 26,000 JSS interns recruited in 2023 will be absorbed to permanent and pensionable terms.
